Farm Vet Services is a 100% farm animal practice working exclusively with farmers across Northern Ireland. For a vet student, that focus matters: your EMS days are spent on real farms, on real cases, not split across small-animal consults.
You’ll be welcomed onto the team and supported throughout — shadowing routine herd health and fertility visits, seeing calvings and disease investigations, and learning how experienced farm vets read a case and talk it through with the farmer. Do I need previous farm experience?
Previous farm experience is helpful, but the most important things are a genuine interest in farm animals and a willingness to learn. The enquiry form asks about your experience so we can tailor your placement — tell us about any you have, and don’t worry if it’s limited.
Do I need a driving licence?
A full, valid driving licence is important. Farm practice means travelling between farms throughout the day, so being able to drive makes your placement far more practical and means you’ll see more.
What species will I see?
We are a 100% farm animal practice, so you’ll be working with cattle, sheep and other farm animals across a range of farms. This is large animal work throughout — not a mixed or small animal placement.
When should I apply?
