FARM VET SERVICES — FERTILITY SCANNING

Cattle Fertility & Pregnancy Scanning

Fertility scanning is pregnancy diagnosis and fertility checking for cattle, for dairy, beef and suckler herds. Farm Vet Services offers it to herds across Northern Ireland.

What does fertility scanning cover?

On beef and suckler farms, our pregnancy scanning includes pregnancy diagnosis, pre-breeding assessment and fetal sexing, to help with calving management and feeding plans.

On dairy farms, scanning is part of a fertility protocol that also includes post-calving assessment and identification of non-bulling cows. We use early pregnancy scanning as part of that plan.

Why scan the herd?

Regular fertility testing can help identify problems before they affect calving results and support better breeding outcomes and calf growth across the herd. For dairy farms, good fertility is central to profitability.

What about bulls and rams?

Bull fertility testing is available on site or at our Templepatrick branch and also for rams. Our Bull MOT is a pre-breeding health check carried out in our handling facility. Ram fertility testing is covered on our sheep services page.

How do I book a scan, and which branch should I contact?

For routine beef herd visits and fertility testing, contact your local branch directly. Our branches are Clogher, Templepatrick, Lisnaskea, Trillick and Randalstown, and you will find the details on our branch page. You can also contact us or read about our beef services and dairy services.

New to the practice? You can ask for a free farm visit. If you are planning your fertility work across the year, see herd health plans and VetImpress, the digital herd management platform our vets use to record fertility results.
