What is Equest Oral Gel?

Equest Oral Gel 18.92 mg/g is a broad-spectrum equine wormer containing moxidectin. It treats large & small strongyles (incl. intramucosal L4), ascarids, pinworm, stomach worm, hairworm and bots. It has 2 week persistent efficacy against small strongyles and suppresses small-strongyle egg excretion for ~90 days.

Why choose it?
  • Encysted small redworm cover in a single dose (moxidectin).

  • Accurate dosing — syringe has 25 kg graduations; each syringe covers 700 kg.

  • Convenient programme — safe for pregnant & lactating mares; foals ≥ 4 months.

Dose & Administration
  • Dose rate: 0.4 mg/kg moxidectin by mouth.

  • Set syringe to bodyweight (25 kg ticks) and deposit gel over the tongue.

  • Pack: syringe contains ~14.8 g gel; packs of 1 / 10 / 20.

Stewardship & Timing

Base treatments on FECs and risk. Avoid underdosing and frequent repeat use of the same class. Many yards target encysted small redworm and bots in late autumn/winter.

Safety & Withdrawals
  • Do not use in foals < 4 months.

  • Keep dogs/cats away from spilled gel/used syringes (moxidectin toxicity).

  • Meat/offal withdrawal: 32 days; not authorised for animals producing milk for human consumption.

  • Environmental care: keep treated horses away from watercourses for 1 week; dung may affect beetles/flies for >1 week.
