What is Selekt Charbon Fluide?

Selekt Charbon Fluide is a liquid suspension of medical-grade activated charcoal designed for oral administration to cattle, sheep and goats when poisoning, enterotoxaemia or diarrhoea is suspected. Activated charcoal is carbon processed to create millions of microscopic pores, giving a surface area of up to 1 500 m² per gram; this enormous area adsorbs toxins through van der Waals and electrostatic forces.

Why choose Charbon Fluide?
  • Instant activation – no need to premix a gritty powder; the charcoal is already hydrated and disperses evenly in rumen fluid.

  • High binding capacity – proven adsorption of alkaloids, mycotoxins, some pesticides and enteric bacterial toxins.

  • Flexible dosing – can be given neat down the drencher hose or added to 20 L Selekt Restore solution when dehydration or electrolyte loss is present.

  • Pump-friendly viscosity – passes easily through Selekt or Vetfuzion pumps with no nozzle blockages.

  • Multi-species label – safe for cattle, sheep, goats and camelids when used under veterinary guidance.

How it works
  1. Physical adsorption – toxins diffuse into the charcoal’s pore network and bind irreversibly.

  2. Reduced systemic absorption – once bound, toxins cannot cross the rumen wall, lowering blood levels.

  3. Elimination – the charcoal-toxin complex is expelled in the dung without being metabolised.

Typical Composition (per 1 L bottle)
  • Activated charcoal – micronised, food-grade

  • Purified water

  • Trace suspending agents to maintain homogenous slurry

(Product contains no electrolytes, drugs or preservatives)

Key FAQ (from manufacturer): “Selekt Charbon Fluide may be given without water, although cows that need it will often be dehydrated and will benefit from at least 20 litres of solution of Selekt Restore with Selekt Charbon Fluide added.”

When to Use
  • Suspected ingestion of toxic plants, fertiliser spills, mycotoxin-contaminated feed

  • Sudden diarrhoea of toxic origin (e.g., oak bud, rhododendron)

  • Supportive measure in enteric salmonellosis or E. coli endotoxaemia (with vet guidance)

  • Pre-emptive drench during high-risk grazing changes or feed-bin break-ins

Safety & Storage

Complementary feed; zero milk or meat withdrawal. Store between 5 °C – 25 °C. Shake vigorously before use to resuspend charcoal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I combine Charbon Fluide with oral electrolytes?
Yes—add the full 1 L bottle to 20 L of Selekt Restore or other electrolyte solution; charcoal does not interfere with electrolyte uptake.

Will it bind oral medications?
Activated charcoal is non-selective; give prescription drugs at least 3 h before or after Charbon Fluide, or via injection.

How messy is it to administer?
The ready-to-use liquid minimises dust; any spills wash off equipment with warm water.
