What is Selekt Fresh Cow?

Selekt Fresh Cow 500 is a water-soluble clinical-nutrition powder formulated for freshly calved dairy cows. One 700 g sachet contains 500 g of calcium propionate, backed by magnesium sulphate and live yeast, to address the metabolic triple-threat of milk fever, ketosis and dehydration in a single, pump-friendly dose.

Why choose it over traditional bottles and boluses?
AdvantageWhy it matters
Huge calcium payload – 108 g elemental Ca from propionate provides slow-release blood calcium for up to 24 h.
True energy support – Propionate is the liver’s preferred glucose precursor, slashing sub-clinical ketosis risk.
Zero potassium / phosphorus – avoids interference with Ca & Mg absorption, unlike many ‘recovery’ drinks.
Live yeast (50 g) – re-inoculates rumen flora for faster return to cud-chewing and dry-matter intake.
Rapid dissolution – fine, dust-free powder mixes in < 60 s and passes easily through Selekt pumps or drench guns.
How it works
  1. Calcium propionate is absorbed from the rumen and metabolised to glucose, boosting blood Ca and energy concurrently.

  2. Magnesium sulphate (150 g) primes parathyroid hormone sensitivity, ensuring efficient mobilisation of bone calcium stores.

  3. Yeast culture crowds out opportunistic pathogens and stimulates fibre-digesting bacteria.

  4. Isotonic carrier fluid (20 L warm water) restores plasma volume lost during calving, improving perfusion of udder and uterus.

Directions & Dosage
  1. Dissolve entire 700 g sachet in 20 L of 38 °C water.

  2. Administer via drencher or Selekt Pump directly into the rumen within 2 h of calving.

  3. Follow-up: repeat 12 h later in high-risk cows (older parity, history of milk fever) as advised by your vet.

  4. Provide free-choice palatable forage and warm water post-drench.

Protocol tip: Combine with Selekt Restore™ 12–24 h post-calving to replenish sodium & potassium once calcium status is secure.

Ideal Use-Cases
  • High-yield multiparous Holsteins and Jerseys

  • Cows with sub-clinical hypocalcaemia or low blood glucose

  • Difficult calvings, twins or retained foetal membranes

  • Pre-displaced abomasum or post-surgery recovery

Safety & Withdrawal

Complementary feed; zero milk or meat withdrawal. Store sachets cool and dry; use immediately after opening.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does Fresh Cow 500 replace IV calcium?
It is designed as an oral adjunct. Clinically down cows still require IV calcium; Fresh Cow maintains blood Ca once they are on their feet.

Q: Can I premix and store it?
No. Dissolve fresh—propionate solutions lose palatability if left standing.

Q: Is it safe for first-calvers?
Absolutely—dose at half rate (350 g in 10 L water) for heifers around 550 kg.
