Vet-Way Surgical Spirit 1L – BP Grade Antiseptic
Vet-Way Surgical Spirit 1L – BP Grade Antiseptic
What it is
Vet-Way Surgical Spirit is a British Pharmacopoeia (BP) grade, ready-to-use topical skin cleanser for veterinary use. The formulation is based on denatured alcohol with added skin-conditioning and aromatic agents, providing rapid evaporation and a clean, non-sticky finish after application.
What it’s for
Pre-operative skin preparation before clipping and draping.
Routine injection sites — swift degreasing and microbial reduction before SC/IM/IV administrations.
General practice hygiene such as instrument wipe-downs between uses where appropriate, and cleansing of areas prior to dressing application.
Farm and yard first-aid to clean minor, non-penetrating wounds prior to dressing, following your vet’s guidance.
Why choose Vet-Way Surgical Spirit
BP-grade quality for consistent evaporation rate and reliable residue-free drying.
Analgesic and antiseptic properties associated with the classic surgical spirit profile, supporting comfort alongside surface cleansing.
Work-ready format — the 1-litre bottle offers excellent value for clinics, stables and farm kits, and can be decanted into smaller spray or flip-top dispensers as needed.
Fast action — rapid evaporation helps reduce wet-time and patient impatience during prep.
Directions for use
Clip heavily soiled or long hair where necessary.
Remove gross contamination with disposable towels.
Apply surgical spirit generously to sterile cotton wool or gauze and scrub the area from the centre outward, using a fresh swab as it becomes soiled.
Allow the skin to air-dry fully before proceeding.
For injection sites, complete prep using a clean swab for the final pass and avoid re-touching the area.

Composition overview
Surgical spirit formulations are typically based on denatured ethanol with small amounts of castor oil and aromatic agents such as methyl salicylate to aid skin feel and comfort, together with denaturants that render the alcohol unfit for drinking. Exact composition may vary by batch; always refer to the product label for current details.
