Dectomax Pour-On

What is Dectomax Pour-On?

Dectomax Pour-On is a topical endectocide for cattle containing doramectin 5 mg/mL, a macrocyclic lactone that controls a wide range of internal and external parasites. The clear solution is applied along the backline for rapid, stress-free treatment at grazing or housing.

Spectrum of activity

Effective against major gastrointestinal roundworms (including adult and L4 stages of Ostertagia ostertagi and inhibited larvae), lungworm (Dictyocaulus viviparus), eyeworm (Thelazia spp.), warbles (Hypoderma spp.), sucking and biting lice, mange mites, and horn fly. Using a single pour-on helps simplify whole-group parasite control during high-risk periods.

Dose & administration
  • Dose rate: 1 mL per 10 kg bodyweight (0.5 mg/kg doramectin).

  • How to apply: Use a calibrated pour-on gun to deliver a narrow strip from the withers to the tail head on clean, dry skin.

  • Accuracy matters: Weigh cattle where possible and check applicator calibration to avoid under- or over-dosing, especially in mixed-weight groups.

Persistent activity & programme use

After correct dosing, doramectin provides extended activity that supports control programmes against key nematodes during risk windows. Incorporate pour-on treatments into a vet-advised plan that includes pasture management, quarantine dosing of purchased stock, and performance monitoring.

Use restrictions & safety
  • Meat and offal withdrawal: 35 days.

  • Milk: Do not use in cows producing milk for human consumption. Do not use in non-lactating dairy cows, including pregnant heifers, within 60 days prior to calving.

  • Do not treat animals with severe skin damage at the application site.

  • Environmental care: macrocyclic lactones can affect dung fauna and are very toxic to aquatic life; keep treated animals away from watercourses immediately after dosing and dispose of waste responsibly.

Pack sizes & equipment

Available in 1 L, 2.5 L and 5 L bottles to suit herd size and handling systems. Use with a compatible, accurately calibrated pour-on applicator gun; keep the dosing wand clean and store caps closed between uses.

Storage & handling

Store in the original container with the cap tightly closed. Keep away from food and feed. Wash hands after use and avoid contact with eyes and skin. In case of accidental exposure, follow label first-aid advice.

Frequently asked questions

Will it control both worms and ectoparasites?
Yes. It covers key internal and external parasites in a single backline application when used as directed.

Can I use it on dairy replacements?
Yes, but not within 60 days before calving if those animals are intended to produce milk for human consumption, and never during lactation for milk destined for human food.

How soon can I slaughter after treatment?
Observe a 35-day meat/offal withdrawal period.
