What is Selekt Off Feed?

Selekt Off Feed is a beige, fully soluble powder formulated for fluid therapy in inappetant adult cattle. Dissolve one 785 g sachet in 20 L of warm (≈ 38 °C) water and administer via drench gun or Selekt Pump. The blend supplies targeted antacids, macro-minerals, live yeast and a traditional herbal appetite stimulant, giving you a one-shot solution to cows that “go off their feed” after calving, surgery or metabolic upset.

Why choose Selekt Off Feed?

  • Powerful energy & pH buffer500 g calcium propionate provides a direct glucose precursor and mild antacid action, correcting sub-clinical ketosis and stabilising rumen pH.

  • Rapid electrolyte correction80 g potassium chloride reverses mild hypokalaemia common in anorexic cows and displaced abomasum cases.

  • Essential magnesium150 g magnesium sulphate 7-hydrate supports calcium metabolism and neuromuscular function, helping cows stand and feed.

  • Live yeast (50 g) repopulates beneficial rumen flora, speeding the return to cud-chewing and normal fermentation.

  • Gentian root (< 1 %) is a bitter herb proven to stimulate appetite and gastric motility, encouraging feed intake sooner.

  • Fully pump-compatible – dissolves without grit, so it won’t block hoses or Selekt drencher tips.

How it works

  1. Propionate enters the Krebs cycle to generate glucose, lifting blood sugars and energy.

  2. Potassium & magnesium correct electrolyte deficits that suppress appetite and rumen contractions.

  3. Live yeast out-competes opportunistic pathogens and boosts cellulolytic bacteria.

  4. Gentian bitters trigger cephalic-phase digestion, increasing saliva and rumen buffering.

FAQs

Can I give it to heifers or goats?
Yes — dose by live-weight (approx. 200 g per 200 kg bodyweight) in 10 L water.

Will it treat severe acidosis?
Selekt Off Feed contains buffers but is designed for inappetance; for acute lactic acidosis use Selekt Antacid first, then Off Feed 12 h later.

Does it replace IV therapy?
No — it complements IV glucose or electrolytes by correcting rumen environment; always follow veterinary advice in critical cases.
